Arlington Man Wins All The Marbles
Jason Carter of Arlington says he was working in the Tysons Corner area when he and a coworker stopped at the 7-Eleven at 7451 Patterson Avenue in Falls Church . That is when he spotted the Virginia Lottery’s newest scratch game: All The Marbles.
What is "Cash Option"?
Mega Millions jackpots are paid either over 26 years or a single lump sum payment, called Cash Option. When a jackpot is won, the Lottery takes the money in the jackpot prize pool and purchases U.S. Treasury bonds to secure an annual payment stream over 26 years.
If a jackpot winner chooses Cash Option, the Lottery sells the U.S. Treasury bonds and the winner gets the entire proceeds of the sale, which is roughly half of the advertised annuitized jackpot. The choice is yours. Your winnings are taxable under either choice.
