Pullman man claims $47 million prize
LANSING ( August 6, 2004 ) – Larry Campbell is several million dollars richer today than he was yesterday.
Campbell , 63, of Pullman , picked up his check for $19,128,233 as the sole winner of the July 23 Mega Millions $47 million jackpot. Campbell elected to take his winnings in a lump sum payment.
LANSING, September 9, 2004 – Brenda Griffin of Spring Lake is a little richer today , thanks to the Michigan Lottery’s Club Keno game! She was shocked, but pleasantly surprised, to learn she had won a $100,000 prize.
Straying from her typical two- or six-spot picks, Griffin played the 10-Spot Game, betting $1 on 10 numbers for five consecutive Club Keno drawings. She matched 10 of the 20 numbers drawn by the Lottery in the last of her five games. The prize for matching 10 numbers in the 10-Spot Game is $100,000, which is the largest prize for betting $1 on a drawing.
Taxes on Winnings
All Michigan Lottery prizes are subject to federal, state and local income taxes. You may be required to make estimated tax payments by filing a form 1040ES with the Internal Revenue Service. The Lottery is required by law to withhold estimated taxes at the rate of 25 percent (federal) and 3.9 percent (state) for any prize over $5,000 paid to a U.S. resident. Non-U.S. residents are subject to a flat 30-percent estimated federal withholding rate as well as the 3.9 percent state withholding rate. Winners of less than $5,000 will receive a W2-G form in January to be filed with their yearly federal, state and local income taxes.
Since its inception in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has generated approximately $11.03 billion in net revenues to support K-12 public education programs in Michigan. In fiscal 2002 alone, the Lottery transferred $613.5 million to the state School Aid Fund.
